3 DAYS KILIMANJARO CLIMB LEMOSHO ROUTE & 4 DAYS SAFARI

The Lemosho route is widely considered to be the best route on Mount Kilimanjaro and it is preferred by reputable operators due to its beauty, remoteness and success rate. Access to the trail begins with a long drive from Moshi or Arusha to Londorossi Gate. This can take three to four hours. Londorossi Gate is located in the western base of mountain. Lemosho starts in lush, fertile rainforest. It is the first ecological zone you encounter on Kilimanjaro (we will trek through four). The route heads up and across the Shira Plateau, which used to be Kilimanjaro’s third peak before it collapsed. The Lemosho route is approximately 70 km/ 42 miles from gate to gate. It is designed for physically fit people with some hiking experience. However, we have many clients who tackle the route as their first real backpacking experience and they do very well. On this trek we will use three days on ascending and descending.

ITINERARY

1st Day: Arrival – SG ResortFebruary 2023

On arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport KIA with a code JRO, our guide will meet you and transfer to your hotel in Arusha at SG Resort. On this day you will be able to exchange your currency in Arusha town and process your SIM card and in the evening you will have a welcome gift and dinner with Ombeni at the hotel.

Arusha is a city in northern Tanzania and the capital of the Arusha Region, with a population of 416,442 plus 323,198 in the surrounding Arusha District located below Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley, Arusha has a temperate climate. The city is close to the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara National Park, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Arusha National Park on Mount Meru. You will get chance for briefing and introduction about your Kilimanjaro climb, preparation and safari.

2nd Day: Shira I Plateau Via Lemosho Route, February 2023

Elevation: 9,498 ft to 11,500 ft 2,895m to 3505m
Distance: 8 km/5 miles
Hiking Time 5-6 hours
Habitat: Heath

We explore the Shira Plateau. It is a gentle walk east on moorland meadows towards Shira 2 Camp. The heath zone displays abundant wildflowers and unique Senecio trees.Kilimanjaro Day 3 on the Lemosho Route will cross the Shira Plateau on Kilimanjaro. Day 3 on the Lemosho Route is one of the easier days on the Kilimanjaro climb. This day is designed to make a short jump in altitude from 3,500m/ 11,483ft. To 3,850m/ 12,631ft. Giving you another day to acclimatize as best you can around this critical acclimatization height, before pushing higher. After lunch in Shira Camp 1, you will hike to the Shira ||, and if you feel a bit strong you will go up to 4,000m/ 13,123 feet for additional acclimatization.

3rd Day: Shira II Plateau via Lemosho Route, February 2023.

Elevation: 11,500 ft to 12,500 ft : 3,505m to 3,810m
Distance: 7 km/4 miles
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Heath
Tonight, you will be sleeping at a new height of  3,850m/ 12, 631ft. If you are staying well hydrated, eating and sleeping, then this is a great sign that you are performing well at altitude. The walk across the Plateau is fairly gradual and a nice relaxed walk into Shira Camp 2. This should only take approximately four hours, therefore you should arrive at lunch time. This gives you a chance to rest, re-hydrate, sleep or hang out and keep acclimatizing. After lunch, the group will take a short walk up to 4,000m/ 13,123 feet, to give added acclimatization. However, this will only take about an hour, round trip. So, you will have plenty of time to relax in Shira Camp 2 for the evening.

4th Day: Shira || Plateau via Lemosho Route, February 2023.

Elevation: 12,500 ft to 15,190 ft : 3,810m to 4,630m
Distance: 7 km/4 miles
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Today only makes a short jump in altitude of 350m/ 1,148 feet. There are three volcanoes that make up Kilimanjaro; Shira, Kibo (the summit) and Mawenzi. Firstly, you should be able to see the Kibo Volcano as you are driving in to Kilimanjaro National Park! It will be in the distance, but still in view if the weather allows. Secondly, you will pass the Shira Volcano today and will get an amazing sunset here at Shira Camp 2. Finally, as you make the way around Kilimanjaro, you will then see the Mawenzi Volcano. This is on the east side of Kilimanjaro, where the Rongai Route heads up Kilimanjaro.

As the sun sets in Shira camp 2 we get great views of the Shira Plateau, Shira Cathedral, and out across the African Plains, toward Mt. Meru in the distance. Looking back towards the hotel in Arusha will show you how far you have come in just 3 days on the mountain.

Later in the afternoon you will be at the gate and taken to Arusha at your hotel.

5th Day February 2023 Relax Day a Hotel in Arusha

6th Day: Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park (130km – 1½hours) on February 2023

Morning Activity

Earlier in the morning after breakfast pick up from the hotel in Arusha at 09:00am and drive on tarmac road 130km with lunch box to Lake Manyara National Park (330 sq km or 127 sq mile’s).

Day Activities

Before afternoon you will be on the base of the Great Rift Valley (Lake Manyara National Park), for the game drives. The park is home to Lion, Hippo, Elephant, Zebra, Buffalo, Giraffe, Baboon, Blue and Vervet monkey, Warthog and more…About 350 species of birds have been recorded. This small park contains also five distinct vegetation zones. Thus supporting a large variety of birds and animals. The Manyara National park is also famous for its large flocks of flamingos. In this park and canoeing has recently been added to the tourist activities in this park at extra cost. You will have your lunch box to eat at the picnic site in the afternoon to see the park from a new perspective.

Evening Activities

In the evening we will drive back to your hotel for an overnight while enjoying the magical and spectacular view of African sunset.

7th Day: Tarangire National Park on February 2023

Morning Activities

In the morning we will pick you up from your Lodge marking the third day of our program 7 days Tanzania Lodging safari and taken to Tarangire National Park. The Tarangire National Park with its endless tree savanna and seasonal marshes is also home to the largest elephant herd in North Tanzania; with over 4000 at the last count, it takes some beating. To add this you can also watch giraffes, buffalo, lions, zebras, gnus and different types of antelopes and gazelles.

Day Activities

Upon your arrival at the Park your driver will attend service with open roof jeep and extensive wildlife watch will begin with our lunch box to be taken at a picnic spot and in the afternoon you will get to see more of this amazing and beautiful park. Later in the afternoon you have choice to start with game drive in the morning since the animals are easily to see before they hide into the shades.

Evening Activities

During later evening you will be driven to your lodge at Marera Village Lodge for an overnight.

8th Day: Tarangire National Park – Ngorongoro on February 2023

Morning Activities

This is the second day for Tarangire National park. In the morning we will pick you up from your hotel drives to Tarangire National Park. 9th Day: Ngorongoro/Maasai Village – Arusha Airport on February 2023

Morning Activities

Wake up earlier in the morning and take a breakfast, then pick up around 07:00 from your lodge towards Ngorongoro Crater.

Day Activities

In this day you will be able to experience the magnificent and spectacular view of Ngorongoro crater with the songs from various birds’ species over the crater. Not only that but also you can get a chance to see some of the big cats. Ngorongoro crater is just one part of a larger area of interrelated ecosystems consisting of the crater highlands (to which the Ngorongoro Crater belongs) together with larger stretches of plains bush and woodland. Ngorongoro conservation area covers an area of about 8300 sq km. near its center is the Olduvai Gorge where many fossils have been earthed. Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s best known wildlife – viewing areas. The crater is about 20kms wide and it is one of the largest calderas in the world. Within its walls is a variety of animals and vegetation, including grasslands, swamps, forests, salt pans, a fresh water lake and rich wildlife. The wildlife found includes lions, elephants, buffalos, wildebeests, Thomson’s gazelles, zebra’s reedbucks. In the midday it will be a good time to take your lunchboxes for a lunch in the picnic site. There after lunch you will go to maasai village for short cultural activity before back to Arusha for airport transfer to Zanzibar.

Evening Activities

Later in the midday travel back to Arusha airport for your departure to Zanzibar.
